The biography of Leonid Monosov can be safely presented at personal development courses to illustrate that if a person is not afraid to take risks, they can move mountains for the sake of their goals. Leonid Anatolievich began his career as a foreman. Today, he is a successful top manager who has made a great contribution to the modern image of the capital.
For over forty years, Monosov has been developing in the construction industry, taking part in the reconstruction of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, the Moscow Circus, the Moscow Zoo, and the Manege Central Exhibition Hall. Under the control of Leonid Monosov, tens of thousands of sq. m. of residential property were built and infrastructure for many residential complexes was created. Today Leonid Monosov has focused on his own projects but stays true to the choice made many years ago—he is still developing in the construction industry, trying to make Moscow even more beautiful and comfortable to live in.
Education
Monosov Leonid Anatolievich was born in the Belarusian city of Mozyr, which is located in the Gomel region, in 1958 and lived here until 1963. When Leonid was 5 years old, his mother tragically died, and his father decided to move to Moscow. There were many reasons. Firstly, it was tough for his father to stay in a town where everything reminded him of his late wife. Secondly, Monosov-Senior wanted to give his son a good education, as it could provide him with the skills and qualifications necessary for a successful career. In Mozyr, there were no prospects. General education schools in the small town in the Gomel region were very mediocre, and the only institution of higher education was a pedagogical one. Those children who didn’t want to be teachers went to other cities. The Monosovs understood that the clock was ticking and left immediately.
They moved to Moscow, in the Sokolniki district. Here, Leonid went to an ordinary school No. 315 without any special classes, but it was far better than any school in Mozyr. Leonid studied well and liked STEM subjects, so he had no problems with higher education. Right after receiving his school certificate, Leonid Monosov applied to the Moscow State University of Railway Engineering for Industrial and Civil Construction and easily entered it. Soon, the construction industry will become the sphere of his life. Leonid Monosov built, restored, managed construction projects, and invested in residential and commercial real estate.
Career and Initial Steps. “Glavmospromstroi”
Leonid Monosov’s first place of work was Glavmospromstroi; it is safe to say that Leonid was lucky with his postgraduate work assignment. He got into “Glavmospromstroi” as a foreman, but all employees had great career advancement opportunities.
The company was founded in 1972 and quickly became a huge construction corporation that implemented projects of federal importance. In 1990, Glavmospromstroi was reorganized into Mospromstroi JSC. Regardless of the name of the organization, it still followed its principles, aspirations, and reputation, specializing in complex and large projects and working quickly and perfectly.
At the time Leonid Monosov joined Glavmospromstroi, there were several tens of thousands of employees: experienced builders, restorers, engineers, and architects. Monosov has fond memories of working here, as here he learned literally everything that he would use in his future career. Despite the huge competition, Leonid Anatolievich showed himself at his best very quickly, and it was just a matter of time until he started moving up the career ladder.
Well, Monosov was assigned to Glavmospromstroi as a foreman. But even in this position, Leonid received a very good salary for the city—150 rubles. At that time, builders were greatly appreciated, especially since Glavmospromstroi specialists performed the biggest projects quickly and with high quality. And there were a lot of projects. At different times, along with the construction of residential property, the company was also engaged in the construction of a Puppet Theater, and the reconstruction of the circus, the exhibition on the Krasnaya Presnya, and the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. Monosov notes the last in particular, as it was a very difficult project made extremely quickly.
During the 20 years that Leonid Monosov worked at Glavmospromstroi, he was promoted from a foreman to Deputy General Director. During this period, Leonid worked as a head foreman and a superintendent, tried his hand at managed a construction department, then a trust. At each post, Leonid Anatolievich was at his best he was not afraid of responsibility, carefully controlled the quality of, and could organize efficient work.
As we have already mentioned, one of the most interesting projects that Monosov managed to implement within his work in Glavmospromstroi is the restoration of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. The cathedral was built on donations from individuals and investors. It was restored at the place where once the already closed swimming pool “Moskva” was Work began in 1994 and was completed in 2000. The workers restored not only the upper church but also the Alekseevsky Maiden Monastery, refectory, halls of Church Councils, and museum.
The Cathedral was erected according to its original nineteenth-century design in order to preserve the historical and architectural merits of the building. At the same time, the builders used modern technologies and materials so that the result met current standards. Thus, there are brick-faced concrete walls. The exterior is faced with marble, while the stairs – with red granite. Moreover, there is an elevator in the prayer hall and modern underground parking for 300 cars.
This project was completed in six years. At the turn of the 21st century, on Christmas night, the service was already held. The Cathedral is still open, so everyone can enjoy its beautiful exterior and magnificent interior.
“Moskapstroy”. New Goals, New Achievements
In 1999, Leonid Monosov left the post of General Director of Glavmospromstroi and became General Director of the engineering company Moskapstroy.
The new company was not much inferior in terms of the previous number and scale of projects. “Moskapstroy” offered construction of residential and commercial real estate, infrastructure facilities, and turnkey projects. The company’s specialists looked for a construction site, prepared construction documents, built, restored, repaired, provided technical supervision, and dealt effectively with building defects. Over 20 subsidiary construction companies worked under Moskapstroy; they developed comfortable infrastructure, designed construction documents, and set up utility systems. It was not difficult to control the work of these firms as each subsidiary observed strict quality criteria and reported for each block of completed work.
With Leonid Monosov Moskapstroy began to quickly develop and expand, developing its competencies. Moskapstroy, as well as Glavmospromstroi, took on very difficult projects. The company participated in construction tenders of any scale and level of complexity. Sometimes Moskapstroy was the only participant in tenders because competitors were not ready to take on the huge responsibility, fearing that they would fail. As a result, once the company managed half of Moscow’s construction projects, including the construction of residential complexes in Butovo, Mitino, and other districts. In addition, the company actively built infrastructure facilities: educational and recreational institutions, entertainment and sports complexes, and office buildings. Among complex engineering projects, we can note the Victory Monument on Poklonnaya Hill, Moscow Zoo, and “Vnukovo-2.”Among the most interesting projects that were implemented with the participation and under the control of Leonid Monosov, we can highlight the restoration of the Manege Central Exhibition Hall.
In 2004, Manege Hall experienced an enormous fire that destroyed a significant part of the exhibition center, a lot of exhibits, and severely damaged the facade. Moskapstroy won the tender and not only restored its former appearance but also made the exhibition space more convenient for visitors. The complex was restored according to the original drawings; there was a spacious exhibition area and space for a restaurant.
There were no problems with the company’s development until 2008. Moreover, in 2006, Moskapstroy reached its peak, having commissioned 4.2 thousand sq. m. of residential real estate. However, in 2008, the figures went down due to the global financial crisis, which affected both ordinary people and construction companies. Anyway, the real estate market didn’t collapse, and there were orders, though not as many as before. Moreover, under the management of Leonid Monosov, the company immediately began to explore related areas, having focused on the construction of infrastructure facilities and the leasing of existing real estate. Leonid Anatolievich also started actively investigating new directions so that, if necessary, it would be possible to diversify risks even more successfully.
Sistema JSFC and Moskapstroy-TN: Investments and Own Business
From 2012 until 2022, Leonid Monosov was Vice President of Sistema JSFC, a company that invests in attractive projects. The company looked for promising organizations, bought them out, and then created optimal conditions for the expansion and development of the subsidiary. “Medsi”, “OZON”, “MTS”, “Detsky Mir”, “Binnopharm Group” and other famous brands have reached their level, including thanks to Sistema JSFC.
The company worked on a wide array of projects. Leonid Monosov was responsible for those related to real estate. Particularly, thanks to Leonid Monosov, Sistema JSFC invested in the construction of the Nebo skyscrapers.
In 2022, Leonid Anatolievich decided to step down as Sistema’s Vice President, as he planned to create his own business; he had already had enough experience, knowledge, and skills. Thus, “Moskapstroy-TN” was founded, and Monosov became its vice president and founder. The company is also involved in investments, looking for prospective projects. Despite existing for a short period of time, the company has implemented many interesting projects: the business center “Na Ordynka,” the residential complex “Topol,” and and shopping center “Pavshino.” Currently, Monosov plans to invest in the residential complex “Mayak” because he considers its location crucial. There are two metro stations nearby: Bitsevsky Park.It doesn’t take an expert to see that the great location of the apartments will definitely attract a lot of potential customers.
Family Life, Hobbies, and Interests
Leonid Monosov not only actively moved up his career ladder but regularly received state awards for his contribution to the development of the construction industry in Moscow. He has the Order of Friendship,a medal for Distinguished Labour, is the Honoured Builder of Russia, and is the laureate of the Russian Federation Government Award.
Not much is known about Leonid Monosov’s private life; he is married and has a son and daughter.
Monosov Andrey Leonidovich
In 1981, Leonid Anatolievich had his firstborn son, Monosov Andrey Leonidovich. Having graduated from school, Andrey entered the Moscow State University of Civil Engineering with the specialty “Economics and Management in Construction.” When the studentship was over, Andrey Leonidovich went to work in a large construction holding. He, like his father, started, almost from the most basic level, as a line employee and also quickly began to build his career.
Monosova Alina Leonidovna
Monosova Alina Leonidovna was born in Moscow in 1990. At first, the girl studied at school No. 315, but then her parents decided to transfer her to a more prestigious educational institution. The first choice was unfortunate: the private school Premier had an excellent school program, but each day Alina had to commute for two hours. As a result, it was decided to transfer Alina to MES, Moscow Economic School, which was as good as Premier but better located. Monosova received her higher education at MGIMO; first, she completed a bachelor’s degree program in International Business and Business Administration. Then she entered the part-time department at MGIMO, Department of Public Governance.
Alina started working while she was still a student. The first experience was unsuccessful. From childhood, Alina dreamed of working on television, but Channel One Russia disappointed her. She quit her job, went to study in London on exchange, and when she came back, she decided to go to the Marketing Department at Moskapstroy-TN. Alina worked here for 10 years, gained experience, and became a vice president of the company, but realized that she had hit the ceiling and went to the company “Skama Group”.
Alina is also keen on psychology. She got several educations in this field and created the project “One Wave,” which helped to find couches and psychologists. Unfortunately, the project had to be closed as this hobby began to interfere with the main work, but Alina continues to develop as a psychologist. She is not ready to work with people, but she believes that knowledge of psychology will help her better interact with clients and partners. Currently, Monosova Alina has created a Telegram channel about fashion and style; she discusses celebs’ style, shares secrets of amazing outfits, and shares life hacks for finding famous brands in modern realities.
